Jason Atherton is the chef patron of the one Michelin starred, Pollen Street Social in London.

Jason Atherton’s impressive career began working with some of the industry’s top chefs including Pierre Koffmann, Marco Pierre White, Nico Ladenis and Ferran Adria at el Bulli, before he joined Gordon Ramsay Holdings in 2001.

Biography

Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Jason his the son of a Skegness hotelier. The young chef ran away from home at the age of 16 and later spent six weeks training to be an Army cadet, which he hated.

Jason Atherton’s impressive career began working with some of the industry’s top chefs including Pierre Koffmann, Marco Pierre White, Nico Ladenis and Ferran Adria at el Bulli, before he joined Gordon Ramsay Holdings in 2001. While working at Gordon Ramsay Holdings Jason was instrumental in the launch of Gordon’s next venture, the fusion restaurant Maze which first opened in London before another five worldwide.

Pollen Street Social

His first venture and flagship, Pollen Street Social, opened in Mayfair in 2014. The restaurant was a success earning a coveted star in the Michelin Guide a mere six months after opening. This was followed by 5 Rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide and a no.4 place in The Good Food Guide’s top list of restaurants in the UK.

Other ventures

Over the years Jason has expanded his restaurant empire which now includes a further five eateries in London alone including the Michelin starred restaurants Social Eating House and City Social, Little Social, Berners Tavern and Social Wine & Tapas in Marylebone.

Branching out further still Jason has embarked on a global collection of restaurants which includes critically acclaimed establishments in Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York and Dubai. In 2017 Jason’s New York restaurant, The Clock Tower, was one of six new additions to achieve a star in the Michelin Guide New York 2018.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Jason has continued to embark on new projects in 2016 included the launch of Kensington Street Social within The Old Clare Hotel in Sydney, Japanese izakaya-style restaurant and bar Sosharu in Clerkenwell; The Pig & Palm, a tapas restaurant in Cebu, The Philippines and Temple and Sons in the City of London. Most recently, the chef opened the New York and Italian fused restaurant Hai Cenato in Victoria.

Other interests

Jason’s recipes have featured heavily in the British media having appeared in numerous publications including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Observer Food Monthly.

Jason has made regular appearances on Saturday Kitchen and in 2008 Jason represented London and the South East on BBC2’S Great British Menu where he made it through to the banquet to cook both the starter and main courses at the Gherkin building in London. Later in 2009 and 2010 Jason returned to Great British Menu as a host.
