The legacy ‘chef roux leaves behind is immeasurable’ - tributes to Michel Roux Snr

The Staff Canteen

The hospitality industry is once again in mourning as it says goodbye to Michel Roux Snr, another of the culinary greats.

The Roux’s have influenced every chef in some way or another, they made the restaurant scene what it is today and they have inspired generations of young chefs especially with the creation of The Roux Scholarship.

Michel was ‘the father figure’ to the Roux Scholars and he will be sorely missed. A real legend of the industry he’s described as ‘one of the most charismatic men you could ever meet’.

A ‘gastronomic kingpin’ and one of the ‘nicest men ever to grace the stoves’. As an industry we will never forget ‘what you have done for French Gastronomy and the food in Britain’. The legacy ‘chef roux leaves behind is immeasurable’.

We are deeply saddened to have lost our founding father, Michel Roux OBE. “We are grateful to have shared our lives with this extraordinary man and we’re so proud of all he’s achieved. A humble genius, legendary chef, popular author and charismatic teacher, Michel leaves the world reeling in his wake. For many, he was a father figure inspiring all with his insatiable appetite for life and irresistible enthusiasm. But above all, we will miss his mischievous sense of fun, his huge, bottomless heart and generosity and kindness that knew no bounds. Michel’s star will shine forever lighting the way for a generation of chefs to follow”. #michelroux
