Unox UK team to walk, run, cycle or swim 1,000 miles to raise £10,000 for The Burnt Chef Project

Following the recent partnership announcement between Unox UK and The Burnt Chef Project, the leading equipment manufacturer has committed to covering the equivalent of the 1,000 miles from Padova, Italy, Unox’s global head office, to Camberley, Surrey, the site of the new Unox UK Experience Centre, all in aid of The Burnt Chef Project.

The challenge, taking place from 01st November 2022 to 16th December 2022, will see a committed team from Unox UK cover 1,000 miles by foot, swimming, or pedal power. Raising awareness of the importance of mental health in the foodservice sector and reducing the stigma attached to such a crucial subject, the challenge is set to be the first in a series of fundraisers from Unox.

The Burnt Chef Project has been leading the charge to eliminate the stigma around mental health in the hospitality sector since launching in 2019. Research demonstrates that as many as four in five hospitality professionals have experienced mental health challenges, yet 46% of those would not feel comfortable talking about it with their peers. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, The Burnt Chef Project provides a range of tools, services and education to support individuals and businesses across the industry.

By completing the challenge to cover the distance between Padova and Camberley, the Unox UK team hope to raise £5,000, which will then be generously matched by Unox S.p.A. to reach the £10,000 target. Amongst other crucial areas of support, this fundraising could be allocated by The Burnt Chef Project to fund more than 250 licences to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app, a resource that is trusted by the NHS, available in nine languages and allows for 24/7 support for users. From speaking to a trained therapist in confidence through the app’s chat function to a complete library of training, webinars and tools, the bespoke app has been designed to support those across the foodservice industry.

On the launch of the virtual challenge, Scott Duncan, Managing Director of Unox UK comments:

“This virtual challenge marks the first in a series of dedicated Unox fundraising initiatives for The Burnt Chef Project. Our team will come together to walk, run, cycle and swim 1,000 miles – the equivalent distance between our global head office in Padova, Italy and our new UK Experience Centre in Camberley. Starting in November and running through to December, our team's progress can be tracked live on our virtual map, where our customers and partners can also donate – helping us to reach our target and supporting the fantastic work of The Burnt Chef Project in the process. We are extremely grateful to our colleagues in Unox S.p.A. for agreeing to match our fundraising total and help us to reach the £10,000 target for our first challenge.”
